The Niger Diagnostic Trade IntegrationStudy (DTIS) has been prepared under the IntegratedFramework (IF) for trade related technical assistance toleast developed countries in response to a request from theGovernment of Burkina Faso. The study is to build thefoundation for accelerated growth by enhancing theintegration of its economy into regional and global markets.This Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) is intendedto provide a broad overview of the key elements forsuccessful integration into external markets, both throughaccess to low-cost imports and especially through thedevelopment and diversification of exports. It paysparticular attention to the role that trade can play inpoverty reduction. It is fully in line with Niger's newstrategy for accelerated development and poverty reduction.Indeed, that strategy refers to this study as a key inputand identifies the same set of priority sectors as sourcesof growth - rural development, artisanal crafts, tourism andmining. This study is also consistent with the ruraldevelopment strategy which emphasizes variousexport-oriented agro-pastoral subsectors. What this study todo is to provide more details and a sense of priorities inorder to strengthen the trade component of these two strategies.
