【 摘 要 】

Publication of this first edition of thelittle data book on private sector development coincideswith rising interest in private sector development andgrowing understanding of the links between private sectordevelopment and economic growth. Well functioning financemarkets and a robust private sector play critical roles inincreasing productivity and growth and in spreading equalityof opportunity. The availability of cross-country data onthe business environment has expanded rapidly in recentyears; including data from the World Bank's doingbusiness project and enterprise surveys. These data sourcesreport on the scope and types of regulations that enhance,and constrain, business activity and provide information onbusiness owners' assessments of the businessenvironment. These data have led to new research, enabledbenchmarking, and informed the reform process in manydeveloping countries.
