【 摘 要 】

The little data book on private sectordevelopment 2011 is based on world development indicators2011 and it's accompanying CD-ROM, with a focus on theprivate sector in development. Access to reliablecross-country data on private sector development is crucialwhen formulating responses to economic crisis. Whendownturns affect exports, investment and growth negatively,making life easier for business is a significant steptowards economic recovery. This became very obvious duringthe global financial crises when governments were trying tostimulate economic growth through the creation of morerobust private and finance markets. Improving the investmentclimate facilitates economic adjustment as it helps attractcapital to create jobs and provide basic services. The datasources presented in this book report on the scope and typesof regulations that enhance and constrain business activityand provide information on business owners' assessmentof the business environment. The data have led to newresearch, enabled benchmarking, and informed the reformprocess in many developing countries. Included in this guideare indicators on the economic and social context, theinvestment climate, private sector investment, finance andbanking, and infrastructure. Though a pocket guide cannotinclude all relevant variables, the indicators that areincluded provide users with a general understanding of theprivate sector in each country. Indicators displayed in thetables are defined in the Glossary, which also lists data sources.
