【 摘 要 】
This paper presents the first criticalreview of literature on poverty published in Russia between1992 and 2006. Using a dataset of about 250 publications inRussian scientific journals, the authors assess whether thepoverty research in Russia satisfies the general criteria ofa scientific publication and if such studies could providereliable guidance to the Russian government as it maps outits anti-poverty policies. The findings indicate that only asmall proportion of papers on poverty published in Russia in1992-2006 follow the universally-recognized principles ofthe scientific method. The utility of policy advice based onsuch research is questionable. The authors also suggeststeps that could, in their view, improve the quality ofpoverty research in Russia.
