The report provides quantitative andqualitative insights into the performance of differentnon-permanence approaches for consideration of parties. Thisnote summarizes the results of the analysis presented in thereport. Besides the existing mechanism for temporarycrediting, the study analyzed a range of alternativeapproaches to addressing non-permanence, including thoseconsidered in prior deliberations of the United NationsFramework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Theapproaches address the risk of non-permanence in severalways. Under the tonne year accounting, credits are issuedfor the increments of carbon sequestered corresponding to adefined permanence period, and their quantity depends on thecarbon stored in biomass each year of the permanence period. However, this approach has not been implemented by anystandard. These approaches are not mutually exclusive, butcan be used in tandem with each other.
