【 摘 要 】

The purpose of this review ofenvironmental and natural resource management in Belarus isto highlight how environmental management can contribute toa sustainable future for the country. The report summarizesmajor macroeconomic trends and associated environmentallinkages, environmental trends, and institutional issuesfacing Belarus in its management of the environment. Anextensive analysis of environmental aspects of energyefficiency in Belarus and the state of the water supply andsanitation sector is undertaken. Special attention is givento exploring the environmental impact of the Chernobylaccident and to suggesting additional ways to mitigatelasting radioactive contamination. Natural resourcemanagement issues, particularly relating to agriculture,forestry and biodiversity, are also examined.
