Safely managed water supply, sanitation,and hygiene (WASH) services are an essential part ofpreventing disease and protecting human health duringinfectious disease outbreaks, including the current COVID-19pandemic. One of the most cost-effective strategies forincreasing pandemic preparedness, especially inresource-constrained settings, consists of investing tostrengthen core public health infrastructure, includingwater supply and sanitation systems. Good and consistentlyapplied WASH and waste management practices serve asessential barriers to human-to-human transmission of theCOVID-19 virus in communities, homes, health carefacilities, schools, and other public spaces.
