Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) — the most common pathology, associated with insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus and obesity. The prevalence of NAFLD varies depending on different factors, among which ethnic origin, age, presence of the metabolic syndrome. The data of recently reported epidemiological studies have shown that hepatic steatosis occurs twice as often in men than in women of childbearing age.
