Math Talk is a website that promotes discussion about math topics for students amongst their peers. This study uses Math Talk to explore four research questions: 1.Will having mathematical discussions prove important to the learning process? 2.When is Math Talk productive in creating good math discussion and deeper understanding? 3.How does allowing students to post their own questions on Math Talk, and subsequently answer those of fellow students, affect the quality of their postings? 4. Can an online environment enable students that are timid in class to feel more comfortable expressing their ideas and opinions in an online environment?
