【 摘 要 】
This book is a call to rethink migrationregimes in Southern Africa in ways that are more explicitlydevelopmental and focused on poverty. Current policy debatesare devoted almost exclusively to border control andpolicing; they pay only lip service to local and regionaldevelopmental strategies. This volume takes a differentapproach. Its contributors are scholars who are convincedthat empirically based policy making stands a better chanceof succeeding than untested preconceptions that riskreproducing recipes that have failed elsewhere. The book istherefore strong on empirics, providing a wealth of originaldata. It also reframes existing approaches and reexaminessecondary data from fresh perspectives. Although the focusremains South Africa, the book reflects South Africa'sregional role and draws on data from across the SouthernAfrican Development Community (SADC). This book broadens the'migration' agenda beyond the boundaries ofmigration studies and migration policy silos. This book isintended to become a resource for a range of audiences inSouthern Africa and the continent.
