【 摘 要 】

There are more than 215 millioninternational migrants in the world. Recorded remittancesreceived by developing countries, estimated to be US$325billion in 2010, far exceed the volume of official aid flowsand constitute more than 10 percent of gross domesticproduct (GDP) in many developing countries. Migration andremittances factbook 2011 provides a comprehensive pictureof emigration, skilled emigration, immigration, andremittance flows for 210 countries and 15 country groups,drawing on authoritative, publicly available data. Thecurrent edition of the factbook updates the information inthe popular 2008 edition with additional data for 71countries collected from various sources, including nationalcensuses, labor force surveys, population registers, andother national sources. In addition, it provides selectedsocioeconomic characteristics such as population, laborforce, age dependency ratio, gross national income (GNI) percapita, and poverty headcount for each country and regionalgrouping. More frequent and timely monitoring of migrationand remittance trends can provide policy makers,researchers, and the development community with the tools tomake informed decisions. The factbook makes an importantcontribution to this effort by providing the latestavailable data and facts on migration and remittance trendsworldwide in a comprehensive and readily accessible format.
