【 摘 要 】
This book investigates trends in skillsdemand and supply over the past two decades for insightsinto ways to build (and use) the critical skills needed tosustain competitiveness of the Philippine economy. Part oneof the book investigates trends in demand for skills in thecountry overall and by sectors, explores its possibledeterminants, and attempts to identify emerging skills gaps.Part two turns to the analysis of the supply of skills inthe country with a focus on the ability of education andtraining to provide highly skilled labor, keepingworkers' skills updated, and providing skillsdevelopment opportunities for the unskilled. It exploresemployers' perceptions on the quality of institutionsand provides detailed analysis of the main characteristics,outcomes, and challenges in four key (or growing) subsectorsof the provision of skills in the country: higher education,postsecondary technical-vocational education, non-formalsecondary education, and postemployment training. Itconcludes with a summary of policy recommendations.
