【 摘 要 】

This book looks primarily at CardioVascular Disease (CVD) and tobacco use because they accountfor a disproportionate amount of the Non CommunicableDisease (NCD) burden the focus is strategic rather thancomprehensive. It considers both country and regional levelapproaches for tackling NCDs, as many of the issues andchallenges of mounting an effective response are common tomost South Asian countries. The prevention and control ofNCDs constitute a development issue that low-incomecountries in South Asia are already facing. Both country andregional-level strategies are important because many of theissues and challenges of mounting an effective response toNCDs are common to most South Asian countries, even thoughtheir disease burden profiles vary. Hence, the rationale forthis book is that strategic decisions for prevention andtreatment of NCDs can effectively address the future burdenof disease, promote healthy aging, and increase thepotential benefit from the demographic transition, thuscontributing to economic development. This book's goalis to encourage countries to develop, adopt, and implementeffective and timely country and regional responses thatreduce the population-level risk factors and NCD disease burden.
