【 摘 要 】
This book is about development andmeasuring development progress. While precise definitionsmay vary, development is, at heart, a process of buildingwealth, the produced, natural, human, and institutionalcapital which is the source of income and wellbeing. A keyfinding is that it is intangible wealth, human andinstitutional capital, which dominates the wealth of allcountries, rising as a share of the total as countries climbthe development ladder. The book is divided into two parts. The first part provides the big picture of changes in wealthby income group and geographic region, with a focus onnatural capital because it is especially important forlow-income developing countries. The second part presentscase studies that illustrate particular aspects of wealthaccounting, including accounting for climate change, therole of intangible capital in growth and development, measuring human capital, and the use of wealth accounting toimprove transparency and governance in resource-richeconomies. The final chapter reports on the implementationof wealth accounting by countries. The appendixes providethe full wealth accounts for individual countries and foraggregations by income group and geographic region.
