【 摘 要 】

The report reviews basic growth, asbeing one of four pillars for Nicaragua's povertyreduction strategy. The well-being of the rural poor willcontinue its dependence on - to a great extent -agriculture. The study analyzes main agriculturaldevelopment aspects, and stipulates the broad basic growthmay be enhanced by strengthening agriculturalcompetitiveness. Yet, export growth is key to economicgrowth, and requires immediate actions within coherentstrategies, illustrated through the case of coffee withinthe proposed strategy. The report also identifies marketforces regarding productivity restrictions of the ruralsector, and suggests medium- and long-term solutions.Finally, the report addresses risk management, including adescription of some promising, pilot projects.
