【 摘 要 】
The authors evaluate the impact offarmer field schools, an intensive participatory trainingprogram emphasizing integrated pest management. Theirevaluation focuses on whether participation in the programhas improved yields and reduced pesticide use amonggraduates and their neighbors who may have gained knowledgefrom graduates through informal communications. The authorsuse panel data covering the period 1991-99 in Indonesia.Their analysis, employing a modified"difference-in-differences" model, indicates thatthe program did not have significant effects on theperformance of graduates and their neighbors. The authorsdiscuss several plausible explanations for this outcome andsuggest recommendations for improvements.
