【 摘 要 】
This paper is organized as follows:Chapter 1 Introduction. Chapter 2 investigates the extent towhich the supply of banking services has increased ordiminished over time, and also analyzes factors underlyingthe spatial distribution of banking services, and therelative roles of public and private banks. Chapters 3 and 4look at the use of financial services by urban individualsand analyze factors accounting for differentials inaccess-in particular the importance of regional and localdifferentials in access, the role of public versus privatefinancial institutions, and the role of individualcharacteristics that could serve as proxies for informationon creditworthiness. The final chapter summarizes thefindings of this paper.
