【 摘 要 】
Over the past 20 years Nepal'sfinancial sector has become deeper and the number and typeof financial intermediaries have grown rapidly.Recentreforms have also made the banking sector more stable.Still, access to financial services remains limited for manypeople in Nepal, and has even been declining in recentyears. This book examines the country's supply of anddemand for financial services and the constraints toincreasing access to them. It offers recommendations on howto make the financial sector work for all of Nepal'speople, and especially for low-income households and smallbusinesses. It presents the results of an access tofinancial services survey administered to Nepali householdsin 2005 and explains what hinders access by low incomehouseholds and small businesses to financial institutions.The obstacles are identified on the basis of an in-depthanalysis of the performance of the microfinance sector andof selected banks.
