This manual presents the objectives andprocedures for application of a research framework using amixed-methods approach from the Education ResilienceApproaches (ERA) Program to help collect evidence on theopportunities, support, and process that help children andyouth succeed in school in spite of overwhelmingly difficultcontexts. The Resilience in Education Systems Research(RES-Research) manual provides guidance across the researchprocess, positioning and conceptualizing, designing, datacollection and analysis for resilience-focused studies. Itemphasizes a mixed-methods approach to sampling, datacollection and analysis to tap into the benefits ofintegrating diverse research approaches. The RES-Researchguide supports studies to inform discussion across educationactors, such as policy makers, ministry officials, otherservice providers, and education institutions, on howschools, universities, and education systems can collaborateto understand adversity, recognize the assets andopportunities for personal, group and socialtransformations, and inform policy makers, programdesigners, and service providers on context- andsituation-relevant approaches to foster resilience as wellas mitigate the sources of adversity.
