The World Bank's 2010 study, ArabDevelopment Assistance: four decades of cooperation, showedthat Arab countries have been generous donors over theyears, particularly the three Gulf countries - Kuwait, SaudiArabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) which representover 90 percent of total Arab aid provided by thosecountries on which information is available. This paperconfirms that the generosity extends to the period of theglobal financial and economic crisis. Arab Gulf countriesand regional financial institutions were responsive to thisnew reality and collectively scaled up financial assistanceto address critical development and humanitarian needs indeveloping countries.
