The World Bank has been supportingthis policythrough theprogram China Rural Information andCommunications: Technical Assistance on Design and ImpactEvaluation, which aims to support the government makedecisions about potential scaling up of innovative ICT pilotprojects and to generate and disseminate knowledge about theimpacts of ICT in rural China. Three activities wereundertakenwith a focus on a trio of provinces (Guizhou,Jilin, and Shandong): (a) a demand survey to assess ruralICT access and attitudes; (b) a library study includingscoping the status of ICT use in rural libraries; and (c) alimited impact evaluation to examine how ICT interventionshave affected rural users.
