Findings Info briefs reports on goodpractice in ongoing operational, economic and sector workcarried out by the World Bank and its member governments inthe Africa Region. This issue reports on the Tanzania Ruraland Micro Financial Services Project. The project wasdesigned as a Learning and Innovation initiative (2000-2004)with support from an IDA credit of US$2 million. Itsobjectives were (i) the development of a common policyframework, based on internationally recognized bestpractices, for rural and microfinance initiatives in thecountry which would establish an enabling environment forrural and microfinance and increase the quality and returnsof subsequent investments by the government agencies andother donors; (ii) increasing the level of knowledge andskills within the industry; and (iii) instituting a programof systematic tracking and analyzing of all relatedinitiatives against a set of common criteria. This infobrief gives information on the project impacts as well aslessons learned.
