【 摘 要 】
Community-based natural resourcemanagement is an important strategy to conserve andsustainably use biodiversity and wildlife in Namibia. Theauthors examine the extent to which conservancies have beensuccessful in meeting their primary goal of improving thelives of rural households. They evaluate the benefits ofcommunity conservancies in Namibia by asking threequestions: Do conservancies increase household welfare?Areconservancies pro-poor? And, do participants inconservancies gain more relative to those who choose not toparticipate? The authors base their analyses on a 2002survey covering seven conservancies and 1,192 households. The results suggest that community conservancies have apositive impact on household welfare. This impact ispoverty-neutral in some regions and pro-poor in others.Further, welfare benefits from conservancies appear to besomewhat evenly distributed between participant andnonparticipant households.
