【 摘 要 】
This paper uses highly disaggregatedtrade data to investigate geographic and productdiversification patterns across a group of developingnations for the period from 1990 to 2005. The econometricinvestigation shows that the gravity equation fits theobserved differences in diversification across nations. Theanalysis shows that exports at the intensive margin accountfor the most important share of overall trade growth. At theextensive margin, geographic diversification is moreimportant than product diversification, especially fordeveloping countries. Taking part in free trade agreements, thereby reducing trade costs, and trading with countries inthe North are also found to have positive impacts on exportdiversification for developing countries.
