This short country report, a result oflarger Information for Development Program (infoDev) -supported survey of the Information and CommunicationTechnologies (ICT) in education in Africa, provides ageneral overview of current activities and issues related toICT use in education in the country. The Republic of Congohas recently developed an official ICT policy co-ordinatedby the Committee for the Promotion of InformationTechnologies in Congo (COPTIC). One of the priorities is toset up a national plan for ICT infrastructure, the lack ofwhich, along with the high cost of computer products andservices, is hindering the development of ICT applicationsin several social sectors, including education. A recentlowering of custom fees has helped to alleviate the problemsomewhat. Several distance education initiatives are beingdeveloped to provide students and businesses in the Congowith an opportunity to access advanced quality training.
