The use of mobile banking is anincreasingly important component of national and regionaleconomic development in Southern Africa. Mobile banking canhelp bring the large unbanked population into the formalfinancial sector, and can facilitate cross-border trade byeasing the difficulty for small businesses and traders tomake financial transactions. For mobile banking to reach itsfull potential in Southern Africa, however, Africangovernments must establish more efficient regulatoryframeworks and implement well-designed pilot programs togain more insight into the challenges facing a full rolloutof mobile banking.
