【 摘 要 】

The author examine this relationship inthe context of agriculture in Ghana's Eastern Region.Our work traces the connection from a set of complex andexplicitly negotiable property rights over land toagricultural investment and, in turn, to agriculturalproductivity. Using survey and focus group data, we findthat while the land tenure institutions may have somebenefits, they result in drastically lower productivity forthose not connected to the political hierarchy.This paperdiscusses the following topics: land transactions and landrights, land tenure is a political process, and a safety netof sorts.
