【 摘 要 】

Social accounting matrices (SAMs) arethe key data input for computable general equilibrium (CGE)models. After a brief introduction to SAMs, this paperpresents a method and related computer program forconstructing macro SAMs from cross-country databases. Themethod is demonstrated in an appendix where it is used tobuild such a SAM for Guinea in Excel. With the help of theprogram, macro SAMs were built for 133 countries, includingmany low-income and/or fragile countries. The SAMs and thecode for the program are available in electronic form. Acompanion paper presents a CGE model with a user-friendlyinterface for which such SAMs provide the bulk of the dataneeded for macro applications.
