The ‘study’ constitutes the totality ofthe work and includes multiple components, includingnational overviews of agricultural pollution for the threefocus countries, thematic working papers, and an overallsynthesis report. The present report corresponds to thenational overview of agricultural pollution in thePhilippines, and specifically, to the summary of threebackground papers on crops, livestock, and fishery systemsrespectively. The overview covers water, soil, and airpollution directly associated with activities and decisionsmade at the farm level or its equivalent (that is, vessellevel or pond level in the case of fisheries). It especiallylooks at: (a) the use of fertilizers; (b) the use ofpesticides; (c) another cropland management practices(including the use of plastics, the introduction of invasivespecies, irrigation and land preparation practices); (d) theburning of agricultural residues; (e) animal wastemanagement (land and aquatic species); and (f) the use offeed supplements, including antibiotics, hormones, and heavymetals in animal agriculture (land and aquatic).Environmental impacts relating to land-use change are beyondthe scope of the review.
