【 摘 要 】
Regional integration in sub-SaharanAfrica (SSA) is crucial for its further economic developmentand, more importantly, its structural transformation awayfrom agriculture towards higher value-added activities, suchas manufacturing and services. Yet there are many pathstowards greater integration, some of which are easier thanothers. In order to gain insights into how regionalintegration is occurring in SSA, determine impediments toit, and develop recommendations for how the World Bank andother development agencies can help further facilitate it,the World Bank commissioned a set of political economy ofregional integration studies covering sector analyses ofagriculture, financial services, professional services, trade facilitation, and transport. This report summarizesthe findings from the sector studies and suggestsrecommendations for further efforts in these areas by theWorld Bank and other development agencies. In a comparativecontext, the findings of the studies suggest cautiousoptimism for regional integration efforts in sub-SaharanAfrica. Economic integration is more likely to succeed whenit occurs alongside regional attempts at improving politicalstability and or developing joint infrastructure.
