【 摘 要 】
Child labor was more prevalent in19th-century industrializers than it is in developingcountries today. It was particularly extensive in theearliest industrializers. This pattern may be a source ofoptimism signaling the spread of technologies that havelittle use for child labor and of values that endorse thepreservation and protection of childhood. Today andhistorically, orphaned and fatherless children and those inlarge families are most vulnerable. Efficient interventionsto curb child labor involve fiscal transfers to thesechildren and active policies toward street children. Changesin capitalist labor markets (including technology), familystrategies, state policies, and cultural norms are examinedto shed light on the causes, chronology, and consequences ofchild labor.
