【 摘 要 】

Most women farmers in developingcountries engage in subsistence agriculture. Previousresearch highlights a variety of barriers hindering women’sability to participate in the production and marketing ofcash crops, which though riskier can be much moreprofitable. A study by the World Bank’s Africa GenderInnovation Lab, the Living Standards Measurement Study andMethods Team, and the National University of SingaporeBusiness School, provides evidence that noncognitiveentrepreneurial skills, such as the will to persevere, optimism, and passion for work play a decisive role – evenmore so in communities where women face greater constraintsto their economic empowerment. Overall, the authors findingscomplement the growing literature in psychology andeconomics documenting the importance of noncognitive skillsin determining important economic outcomes.
