Well-integrated planning models can helpcover the whole planning spectrum - from the national leveldown to granular distribution at the village level.Integration of models is critical to ensure that investmentplans are realistic and accurately reflect the costs thatutilities face in practice. The foregoing review of powersystem planning models and sophisticated stand-alonegeographic information systems (GIS) - based models suggeststhe following questions: is there a need to bring the twoparadigms closer? If so, do analytical frameworks exist toaccomplish the task?
