This note provides guidance on the typeof information about agricultural investments that investorsand governments can make publicly available. Transparencyabout certain aspects of investments can improve relationsbetween investors and communities, enable externalstakeholders to hold investors to commitments, and improveinvestors’ public image. Although some information should bekept private to protect commercial interests, in general theamount of publicly available information is insufficient fortransparent, accountable conduct of agriculturalinvestments. This has often led to fear, mistrust, andresentment, and created operational and financialdifficulties for investors. Some investors and governmentshave recently shifted toward a more transparent approach, but the risk of misuse of information needs to be managed.
