This study was undertaken because: There is a large inventory of contaminants in the Vadose Zone; Infiltration is the only ongoing means of transporting contaminants to depth; Sediment moisture controls the rate of movement. In addition, an attempt is made to differentiate precipitation from water-line leaks as sources of contaminants.
