The Hanford Facility, located in southeastern Washington State, is owned by the U.S. Government and operated by the U.S. Department of Energy. Dangerous waste and mixed waste (containing both dangerous and radioactive components) are generated and managed on the Hanford Facility. Waste components are regulated in accordance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976, the Hazardous and Solid Waste Amendments of 1984, and/or the State of Washington Hazardous Waste Management Act of 1976 (as administered through the Washington State Department of Ecology Dangerous Waste Regulations, Washington Administrative Code 173-303); or the Atomic Energy Act of 1954.
