In this paper we present a computational environment called Plexus, whose main goal is to help the project and implementation of simulation software for coupled phenomena through flexible and friendly abstractions, based on the finite element method. This paper shows the relevance of that system, identifying a set of advantages, which can be granted with its use, exploring its understanding through examples. (c) 2005 Published by Elsevier B.V.
