We use supercharacter theory to connect the sixth power moment of Kloosterman sums to elliptic curves. This yields an elementary proof that Kloosterman sums K-u with modulus p inverted iota u are O(p(2/3)). (C) 2019 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
