【 摘 要 】
This article presents a certain perspective on foreign immigration in Italy. It will try to demonstrate how that immigration is trapped between a very dynamic economic demand for the next twenty years (5.3 million of foreign residents at the end of 2010), and politics that would like to, nowadays, close its doors and stop the multiethnic transformations of the society. But that closing would imply to deal with the requirements and practical transgressions of economic actors in the field of the regulation of the labor market. This discrepancy produced six regulation laws in 22 years; the last one in 2009 is promoted by the actual government. The political rhetoric of rising hostility and its apparent closing must confront itself, at some point, to a practice of a silent economic approval of immigration coming from the private sector, but also from the families as job providing opportunities. However, Italy, and its wealthier surroundings, lives with a profound contradiction in its relationship to the foreign component of its population. In fact, it is becoming even more multiethnic, but its cultural representations tend to refuse that reality.
