【 摘 要 】

Abstract::GISprovidesanexcellentmeansforvisualisingandanalysingepidemiologicaldata,revealingtrends,dependenciesandinter-relationships.Itcanacquire,store,manage,andgeographicallyintegratelargeamountsofinformationfromdifferentsources,programmesandsectors.GISservesasacommonplatformfortheconvergenceofmulti-diseasesurveillanceactivities.Standardisedgeo-referencingofepidemiologicaldatafacilitatesstructuredapproachestodatamanagement.Oncethebasicstructureisready,itiseasytoconvertittoasurveillancesystemforanyotherdisease.Publichealthresources,specificdiseasesandotherhealtheventscanbemappedinrelationtotheirsurroundingenvironmentandexistinghealthandsocialinfrastructures.GIShelpsgeneratethematicmapsthatdepicttheintensityofadiseaseorvector.GIScanidentifycatchmentareasofhealthcentresandalsolocatesuitablesitesforanewhealthfacility.GISallowsinteractivequeriesofinformationcontainedwithinthemap,tableorgraph.Itpermitsadynamiclinkbetweendatabasesandmapssothatdataupdatesareautomaticallyreflectedonthemaps.DynamicmapspublishedontheInternetassistpatientsinlocatingthemostconvenienthealthserviceseasily.
