MyosinscompriseafamilyofATP‐dependentmotorproteinsthatarebestknownfortheirroleinmusclecontractionandtheirinvolvementinawiderangeofothereukaryoticmotilityprocesses.Recentphylogeneticanalysisplacesmyosinsinto35highlydiverseclasses.Althoughtheseactin‐basedmolecularmotorshavebeencharacterizedextensively,andmuchisknownabouttheirfunctionindifferentcellularcompartments,thereislittleinformationavailableaboutthesemoleculesinhematopoieticcells.Theavailabledataestablishthatmyosinsexpressedbyimmunecellsareabletosupportgeneraltasks,suchasmaintainingplasmamembranetension,movingandsecretingvesicles,aidinginendo‐andexocytoticprocesses,andpromotingtheadhesionandmotilityofcells.Additionally,however,myosinsareinvolvedinhighlyspecializedfunctions,suchasregulatingcellactivation,IS‐inducedsignaling,andtheseveringofmicrofilamentsviathecontrolofGTPases.Inthisreview,wesummarizethecurrentunderstandingofmyosinsinleukocytes,withemphasisontheemergingrolesofthesemolecularmotorsinimmunefunctions...
