【 摘 要 】

It is known fact that the geometry of fabric changes when subjected to strain and fabric air permeability is affected by the fabric geometrical parameters. However, the literature disclosed that the influence of strain on the air permeability of the fabrics has never been studied. In this work an effort has been made to study the influence of strain on the air permeability of woven fabrics with elastomeric constituents. Forty two different fabrics were woven with range of in-loom pick density, filling yarn linear density and weave. A special device to impart uniaxial tensile strain on a fabric has been designed and built. The staining device was constructed so that the air permeability of a fabric could be measured while the fabric is in its stretched state.Influence of uniaxial tensile strain and fabric structure parameters on fabric air permeability has been investigated. The results show that fabric air permeability is significantly affected by the fabric strain level. The air permeability increases with increasing in fabric strain. The increase in air permeability with strain is associated with the geometrical changes taking place in the fabric due to strain. The air permeability of an elastomeric fabric also depends on fabric construction parameters. For a fabric employed with particular weave, warp and filling yarns the air permeability decreases with increasing fabric tightness.
