【 摘 要 】

The rate of overqualification, defined as a person having more education or skills thantheir job requires them to have, has continued to grow since the issue was first identifiedas a significant problem. Though evidence that suggests the rate of overqualification hascontinued to grow, American sociologists have shown little interest in the area in mostrecent years while their international counterparts have looked at the issue in abundance. This study finds thatthe amount of the workforce overqualified for their jobs from 1972-2010 has steadily increased and possible predictors of the issue are addressed. Theregion where one lives and parents' education may be significantly related tooverqualification. In addition, a curvilinear regression analysis shows an interestingtrend that occurs with overqualification and age. From binary regression analyses and acurvilinear analysis of overqualification surprising results that do not support theory andother expected hypotheses are found.
