A journey of the utmost importance, of heart, mind, andthat unknown territory called the imagination: Encounters at thePoles combines the aesthetics of the human imagination andthe poetics of polar landscapes in the 19th and early 20thcenturies. The Arctic and Antarctic terrains swallowed upships, men, and their belongings, which upon being found,were buried once again in museums and archives. Utilizingthe historic imagination, voices from multiple narratorsproject the reader to specific times and places in a journeyfrom the North Pole to archives in London and Copenhagento the South Pole and back again. It is a soliloquy full ofhope, despair and yearning.
