【 摘 要 】
This report has been prepared jointly bythe staffs of the World Bank and the International MonetaryFund (IMF). This year we are facing historic developmentchallenges from natural disasters, to food and fuel pricespikes, and profound change in the Middle East. Despite highbeverage growth in the developing world, it is crucial toprovide opportunities to those that are being left behind.Wealthier economies are experiencing slower growth butdevelopment assistance needs remain high. In ourinterconnected world, sustainable recovery means supportinginclusive growth. Only four years remain until the 2015deadline for reaching the Millennium Development Goals(MDGs). The global monitoring report 2011: improving theodds of achieving the MDGs heterogeneity, gaps, andchallenges underlines the urgency of helping countries thatare behind on meeting key targets for extreme poverty, hunger, disease, and child and maternal mortality. Thereport lays out the challenges that remain; analyzes effortsto improve human development; and assesses the role ofgrowth, policy reforms, trade, and donor policies in meetingthe MDGs. The findings from this year's report offerreason for both hope and concern. The MDGs were designed toprovide a framework for the entire international communityto work together toward a common end: making sure that humandevelopment reaches everyone, everywhere. If these goals areachieved, billions more people will have the opportunity tobenefit from the global economy.
