【 摘 要 】

The objective of the socio-economicatlas (SEA) for Vanuatu is to present key indicators of thesocioeconomic status of Vanuatu population, at the areascouncil level. It allows for comparisons of variousdevelopment indicators across various geographical areas. The atlas has been developed through a consultative processwith various Government agencies and developmentorganizations. The atlas provides representativesocio-economic indicators at the level of area council(district), which is the smallest administrative divisionunit in Vanuatu. Most of the indicators presented in theatlas have been derived from the Vanuatu 2009 census data, which is rich in terms of the development indicatorscaptured. The content of the census questionnaire definesthe boundaries of what indicators can be presented. Theauthors have used small area estimation techniques to deriveestimates of consumption-based poverty and inequality, bycombining the use of the 2009 census data with the 2010household income and expenditure survey (HIES) data. Aseparate technical paper describes the methodology used indoing this and is available from the Vanuatu nationalstatistical office (VNSO) and the World Bank. The atlasincludes five key groups of socio-economic indicators forpopulation. Section A covers the indicators of householdwellbeing in terms of consumption-based poverty rates andinequality indices. Section B looks at the sources oflivelihoods for households in terms of livestock numbers andshare of households engaged in various economic activities.Section C focuses on the households' living conditionsby looking at the quality of dwelling, access to water, andaccess to electricity. Section D explores education outcomesand shows percent of adult population with various levels ofschooling. Section E looks at some indicators related tohealth status, such as percent of adults who smoke andconsume alcohol. Section F looks at the distribution ofeducation and health facilities, and roads and tracks in thenational road network.
