【 摘 要 】
The World Bank Group has a uniqueopportunity to match the increases in financing foragriculture with a sharper focus on improving agriculturalgrowth and productivity in agriculture-based economies, notably in Sub-Saharan Africa. Greater effort will be neededto connect sectoral interventions and achieve synergies frompublic and private sector interventions; to build capacityand knowledge exchange; to take stock of experience inrain-fed agriculture; to ensure attention to financialsustainability and to cross-cutting issues of gender, environmental, and social impacts and climate; and to betterintegrate the World Bank Group support at the global andregional levels with that at the country level. Thisevaluation uses the typology of economies developed by theAgriculture for Development: World Development Report 2008as one classification in its analysis. In theagriculture-based category, which includes most ofSub-Saharan Africa, development of the agriculture sector isessential to growth and poverty reduction, yet productivityis low, constrained by limited access to modern inputs, irrigation, communication, and transport. The World BankGroup support focused on alleviating these constraints isimportant to help achieve poverty reduction.
