【 摘 要 】
Examining the experience of theU.S.-Mexico remittances corridor over the last eight years, this title derives specific lessons that could be applicableto other remittance corridors when shifting from informal toformal systems. Lessons focuses on a few selected aspects ofthe remittance experience and breaks down the remittanceprocess into three stages: the First Mile, when decisionsare in the hands of the remittance sender; the IntermediaryStage, comprising the systems that facilitate thecross-border transfer of funds, and; the Last Mile, wherethe funds reach the hands of the remittance recipient. Byanalyzing the objectives, obstacles, incentives, and changesoccurring at each of these stages in the U.S.-Mexicocorridor, lessons are drawn for other remittance sending andreceiving countries that seek to encourage formalization ofthe flows.
