【 摘 要 】
New businesses are likely to have beeneven more severely affected by the crisis than maturebusinesses, even in non crisis times, new and young firmstend to be more constrained than older firms which oftenhave established reputations and enjoy easier access tofinance. Given the sudden scarcity of credit and theuncertain economic outlook, it is reasonable to assume thatentrepreneurs wanting to start a new business or register anexisting informal business were hit especially hard by thedownturn. Until now, however there has been a lack ofcomprehensive evidence to support this assumption. Theimpact of the 2008-09 financial crises on new businesscreation should be of special interest given the importanceof entrepreneurs and young firms to the continued dynamismof the modern market economy; it is well established that arobust entry rate of new business can foster competition andeconomic growth. This report hypothesizes that althougheconomies with more developed financial markets were hitharder by the crisis, they will enjoy stronger and quickerrecoveries in new firm creation.
