【 摘 要 】

The Annual Bank Conference onDevelopment Economics (ABCDE) is one of the best-knownconferences for the presentation and discussion of newknowledge on development. It is an opportunity for many ofthe world's finest development thinkers to presenttheir ideas. The papers in this volume were presented at theABCDE that was held on January 16-17, 2007, in Beijing,China. Each year the topics selected for the conferencerepresent either new areas of concern for future research orareas that the author believes will benefit from areexamination. The topic of the 2007 conference was'higher education and development,' whichencompassed five themes: higher education and migration,private-public provision of higher education, financing ofhigher education, technological innovation (linkages betweenuniversities and industry), and higher education and labormarkets in Asia.
